Endowment Fund
JCLF accepts bequests, trusts, transfers of stock and property from donors to the endowment fund. The foundation currently manages permanent and restricted funds to provide ongoing support for library collections, programs, technology, and enhancement needs. A permanent endowment generates stability for many programs and provides a source of funds for future generations.
Buy-A-Shelf
Support your local branch library this way!
Donations of $100 receive a permanent engraved plaque in lasting recognition. You can purchase a shelf plaque as recognition for someone, in your family name, or to honor birthdays, celebrations, anniversaries, memorials, graduations or any special occasion. We place the plaque in the library branch that you designate, and a portion of the proceeds then fund purchases at that libraries discretion.
To Buy-A-Shelf, please fill out the form you can find in every Jackson County library branch, click here or call the Foundation office at 541.774.6572 or or contact Shelley using our contact form and we’ll mail you one.

The following are examples of library programs that can be supported with charitable gifts:

Our branch libraries provide important gathering places for neighbors to rendezvous, children to study and enjoy special programs, and community groups to hold meetings and events. Each community and each library branch develop their own priorities for programs, collections, and building enhancements. Many communities have raised thousands in private donations for improvements to their local branches. The Buy-A-Shelf Program is our most popular way of giving to your community library. For a gift of $100, you can donate to your local library and receive a permanent plaque in recognition of your gift. Book shelf plaques are great gifts for any occasion. Fill out this form to purchase a shelf! (click here to BAS.pdf) Donations are tax deductible. For other types of contributions that benefit your local branch library, please call or email Shelley Austin, Executive Director at 541.774.6572 or or contact Shelley using our contact form. |

Establish an Endowment fund in your name with the Jackson County Library Foundation. Even small and moderate gifts to The Foundation can become sizable contributions. When you contribute to the Foundation’s Endowment fund, your gift is held in a fund from which only the interest income is ever spent, not your original gift. By spending only the interest, your contribution results in annual payments, even if you don’t give again every year.
The Jackson County Library Foundation manages an Endowment of roughly $1.8 million. The Endowment provides the libraries in Jackson county with resources to meet the future needs as costs fluctuate, buildings need enhancement and maintenance, technology upgrades become necessary and programs and services are expanded or created.
Services and programs the Endowment helps to support include:
- Summer Reading Program
- Story Times for our youngest citizens
- Children’s Festival
- Outreach programs for daycare kids and the homebound
- Bilingual books and reading programs
- Class visits to the library
- Senior Day for high school seniors
- Book collections
- Audio books
- Career/Vocational Guidance Collection
- Instructional and Technology programs for adults
- Professional Resource materials
You may designate or restrict funds to support the program of your choice. Endowment gifts that are unrestricted or less than $10,000 will be placed in the Foundation’s Endowment Fund. The income from this fund will be used for priority programs chosen by the organization’s Board of Directors.

Jackson County Library Services plays an important role in ensuring that all people have access to information by providing free opportunities for computer access and on-line information. Computer hardware and software, communications technology, and electronic equipment were not funded by the 2000 bond measure.
In both surveys and town hall meetings, each one of the rural communities identified a strong need for the library to have additional computers to provide affordable access to residents, as well as for warm and friendly rooms for young people to congregate and study. Many of them talked about the opportunity to enlarge meeting rooms and equip them with kitchens or current technology providing greatly needed spaces in which community members and groups could gather. However, many of the county's rural communities, which are severely underserved, do not have the organizational capacity to raise funds to provide these enhancements to library facilities.
Every branch library building has been designed and wired to support new technology, but acquisition of the equipment to meet current and future needs will be an ongoing challenge for the library and the county. Private funding will be an important source of support. JCLF is seeking donations to support this portion of the Capital Campaign. Your donation will help link our communities to the latest information technologies.
