The Foundation is a private, non-profit 501c3 organization, directed by volunteer Board of Directors from throughout the county. We manage funds donated to library programs, or with gifts specified to build the collection, enhance our library buildings, or to create new programs that meet changing needs of the citizens in our county. We also write grants and host special events, such as our Southern Oregon Arts and Lectures Series. |

Why give more to the Libraries? Don't public funds provide for everything? |
The Library Foundation funds provide special touches and enhancements to the libraries that public funds cannot. For example, the collection of books in the library system is constantly being updated, added to and enhanced. Public funding from the County allows isn't enough to keep the entire system current, and funding cycles are not flexible. Therefore, the Foundation supports the ongoing purchases of books, CDs, DVDs and other items for the collection. This ensures a library system of exceptional caliber and a system of buildings that will endure for a century or more.

Does the Foundation have an endowment? |

Yes. The endowment is comprised of funds that are restricted by the donors wishes, and gifts from which only the interest is used to support activities of the Foundation. The Foundation's endowment is well managed by the Oregon Community Foundation.

Who are Friends of the Library? |
Each branch has its own Friends of the Library organization and each is a separate 501(c)(3) organization. Jackson County Friends of the Library organizations promote library services in their communities, advocate on behalf of libraries, and raise funds - often through used book sales, to help pay for special programs and services. Friends Groups have sponsored book discussions, open houses, and summer reading programs.
The Library Foundation works to secure funds that benefit all libraries, and each Friends of the Library group focuses on a specific community library branch. We work together to fund programs and enhance the quality of the library overall. For example, a Friends Group might pay a portion of a program cost that affects its library, or ensures the program reaches its library.
Friends welcome new members. To join or get more information, contact your local library or your local Friends Of The Library group.
Please see Jackson County Library News for dates of upcoming sales.
