Jackson County Library Services plays an important role in ensuring that all people have access to information by providing free opportunities for computer access and on-line information. Computer hardware and software, communications technology, and electronic equipment were not funded by the 2000 bond measure. In both surveys and town hall meetings, each one of the rural communities identified a strong need for the library to have additional computers to provide affordable access to residents, as well as for warm and friendly rooms for young people to congregate and study. Many of them talked about the opportunity to enlarge meeting rooms and equip them with kitchens or current technology providing greatly needed spaces in which community members and groups could gather. However, many of the county's rural communities, which are severely underserved, do not have the organizational capacity to raise funds to provide these enhancements to library facilities. Every branch library building has been designed and wired to support new technology, but acquisition of the equipment to meet current and future needs will be an ongoing challenge for the library and the county. Private funding will be an important source of support. JCLF is seeking donations to support this portion of the Capital Campaign. Your donation will help link our communities to the latest information technologies. Click here to download a form to donate to the Technology enhancements at your library. |
