The Jackson County Library Foundation (JCLF) is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization, which provides financial support, leadership, and resources to help Jackson County Library Services attain a high level of excellence in facilities and services. The Foundation receives contributions and investments from individuals, businesses, and other foundations to enhance the capacity and services of the 15 branch libraries beyond simply "bricks and books." These community investments provide the support to sustain capital improvements, technology, art, and a valuable collection of books and materials.
Wal-Mart Supports Summer Reading
Our friends from the Medford, Talent and Eagle Point Wal-Mart stores have made a contribution to the Library Foundation of $25,000 to support and fund Summer Reading and Summer Storytelling in the Jackson County Library System.
This corporate contribution will allow the Library Foundation to increase the number of books available for Summer Reading and increase the prizes for those who read all summer. Funds for Summer Storytelling will bring in more storytellers to tell tall tales to our young people and get them excited about reading.
Summer Reading and Summer Storytelling begins in June and we hope many of our young people will participate and keep learning new ideas all summer long. A special thanks to Wal-Mart for helping fund the programs.
Summer Thanks for our Open Libraries
The Summer of 2007 will long be remembered in Jackson County as the summer our libraries were closed.
As we approach Summer 2008, let us celebrate our re-opened libraries, and appreciate again all 15 branches and what they offer the young and adults in our communities.
Give a donation to your local library, or a donation to support your favorite library program through a donation to the Library Foundation. All gifts to the Library Foundation are tax-deductible and your gift stays in Jackson County.
You can Buy-A-Shelf in your local library to thank or honor someone or you can have a shelf placed in memory of a friend or family member who appreciated libraries and what they meant to the community. The spring and summer are a perfect time to place a library shelf.
Support the Jackson County Libraries with a gift to The Jackson County Library Foundation.
Jackson County Libraries Reopen
It has taken six months but Jackson County has finally agreed to spend enough money to reopen all 15 branches of the County Library System.
Following a Request for Proposals (RFP) from two organizations qualified to run libraries, Jackson County officials have hired library management company LSSI (Library Systems and Services, LLC) to manage our library system.
LSSI, which has over 25 years experience managing libraries has agreed to continue all the library programs the Library Foundation has been supporting over the years, such as Children's Storytelling, Jackson County Reads, Outreach to the Homebound, Babies in the Library and several others.
All 15 branches of the Jackson County Library System closed on April 6 because of the loss of federal funding that has supported the libraries and many other public services in Jackson County for many years.
With a one-year extension of federal funding, Jackson County is able to reopen the libraries for at least two years with the expectation that long term funding will be found and established.
All individuals and business can help by making a donation to the Library Foundation that will be used for continuing valuable library programs and also to help find a permanent solution to library funding in Jackson County, so we never have to see our libraries close again.
